Brian Taylor Named MWC Defensive Player of the Week!


From our Sports Information Department:

Grinnell College’s Brian Taylor ’13 has been named the Midwest Conference Football Defensive Performer of the Week.

Taylor, a 6-2, 230-pound defensive end from Andover, Kan. (Independent), recorded 3.5 sacks, just a half-sack shy of the Grinnell school record, in the Pioneers’ 17-15 victory over Lawrence University on Saturday.

He also had a team-high six tackles as Grinnell stretched its winning streak to four games, the longest for the Pioneers since the 1999 season.

Mike McCabe '13 Named MWC Player of the Week!


Pioneer quarterback Mike McCabe '13 was named Midwest Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his 7 touchdown performance in Saturday's 49-34 win over Lake Forest.

Mike completed 26 of 37 passes for 320 yards 5 touchdowns and no interceptions.  He also rushed for 28 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Rob Seer '12 Earns MWC Player of Week Honors!


Pioneer Wide Receiver, Rob Seer '12, has earned the first MWC Offensive Player of the Year honor of 2011!

From the MWC release:
Seer caught seven passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns as Grinnell won its season opener, 31-6 over Macalester College. Among his TDs were a 5-yard catch from Trent Baker early in the fourth period and a 78-yard completion from Mike McCabe later in the period.

Mike Bogard Named MWC Player of the Week

For the second week in a row, the Grinnell College football team has had the Midwest Conference Offensive Performer of the Week.


Mike Bogard ’12, a 6-foot, 196-pound quarterback from Brookfield, Wis. (Brookfield Central HS), earned the honor this week.

Bogard completed 26-of-37 passes for 394 yards and four touchdowns in Grinnell’s 41-20 victory over Lake Forest College. Grinnell’s 478 total passing yards (Mike McCabe also had 84 yards) is the most by the Pioneers since a 510-yard effort against Lawrence University in 1994, and their 570 yards of total offense is the most since a 2003 game against Macalester College.

Logan Granera Named MWC Player of the Week

Wide Receiver Logan Granera '12 was named the Midwest Conference Offensive Player of the Week today after grabbing 9 balls for 195 yards and 2 touchdowns in Saturday's game versus Ripon College.  Granera also had 140 kick return yards and leads the Pioneers on the season with 19 catches for 350 yards and has the second-most touchdowns with 3.

Marquis Bradley Named MWC Player of the Week!


For the second time this fall, a Pioneer defender has earned the recognition of Midwest Conference Player of the Week. Marquis Bradley's efforts in the 27-12 victory over Knox College were crucial to the team's success. Bradley totaled 16 tackles, 4.5 of which were for a loss. But his two biggest plays were in the first two minutes of play. Bradley forced a fumble and then recovered it for a TD on Knox's first play from scrimmage before causing another fumble on the ensuing kickoff that the Pioneer offense punched in for a quick 14-0 advantage.

Ryan Fletcher Named MWC Player of the Week

After a dazzling defensive performance, Grinnell junior linebacker, Ryan Fletcher was named this week's Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week!

Fletcher's stat line on Saturday vs. St. Norbert:
7 total tackles, 3.0 TFL (including 2.5 sacks), 1 forced fumble, and 2 pass break-ups
